Why a Union?

  • Representation is common for professionals.
    • All city staff besides a few classifications are already represented.
  • Protection from unfair, biased, arbitrary, inconsistent management and decisions.
    • Including protection from racist, ableist, inequitable, or abusive treatment in the workplace. Also, inconsistent practices and the culture can be toxic.
    • E.g. Management Leave discretion, performance evaluations, etc.
  • Increase our power, control, and autonomy as employees.
    • Have a seat at the table to determine your working conditions and compensation.
  • Negotiate appropriate compensation and working conditions.
    • Including where to work, and when to work.
    • Reasonable pay ranges and higher step increases.
