How did we get to $100m?!?!

It has been an intense two weeks. From political whiplash to near-daily “updates” from city leaders about our work and budget—all while we are in active bargaining for a fair contract—it has felt difficult and stressful. This is not okay, and you are not alone.  

Our union has been digging into these “updates” because city leaders have been awfully opaque, with few details amid the business jargon and empty expressions of empathy.  

We want to share what we know and don’t know yet. And provide ways to channel our fear, anger, or distrust into positive action in support of city workers and the city we serve.

Were you spooked by Michael Jordan’s message yesterday connecting our current bargaining and the city’s budget next year? Did you hear the ghostly whispered threat of layoffs? In this year of relentless, ongoing change and transition, don’t let these tricks scare you.

The three unions, CPPW and our partners at AFSCME and DCTU, bargaining now for fair contracts are absolutely not to blame for the city’s finances.
